We make TravelMapReel, so read this as the maker’s view. Travel Animator facts come from its own App Store listing, Google Play listing and website, checked on 30 September 2026; they can change, so check its pages before you decide.
What Travel Animator does well
Travel Animator, from the developer Lascade, is an app for 3D animated travel map videos. Its strengths are real:
- It’s live and updated often. The App Store listing shows a first release in September 2023 and an update in late September 2026.
- Wide platform reach. On the App Store it runs on iPhone, iPad and Apple silicon Macs, and it’s on Google Play for Android.
- Several ways to plot a route. Its website says you can add your stops, “search any place and draw your journey point-to-point, straight from Google Maps”, or upload a GPX file.
- Deep visual options. The website lists 300+ 3D vehicle models, 30+ map styles (including satellite, terrain and a 3D globe), 80+ 3D landmark models, and photos placed along the route.
- A free plan that keeps working. Its pricing page describes the free plan as “Free Forever” with unlimited HD exports (with a watermark). Pro adds 4K export and removes the watermark.
If you want a cinematic 3D look, a specific landmark, 4K, a Mac or Android, or full manual control over every point of the route, Travel Animator gives you that and TravelMapReel doesn’t.
The difference: plotted route vs photo-built route
In Travel Animator, you plot the route. You add the stops (or import a track), then decorate it with vehicles, styles and photos.
In TravelMapReel, your photos plot the route. Every iPhone photo stores when and where it was taken. From the photos you pick (up to 200 per trip), TravelMapReel:
- Groups photos taken close together into stops and names each one after the town or place.
- Draws the drive between stops along real roads; legs too fast for a car become flights and sea crossings become ferries, shown as arcs.
- Uses AI to rate the photos, so the video opens on your strongest shot and blurry shots and screenshots are pushed back.
- Renders a vertical 1080×1920 video in the cloud, ending on the trip’s distance, days and stops.
You can rename, reorder or remove stops and choose a map theme and a vehicle (car, campervan, motorbike, plane or ferry), but there is nothing to plot first. Full-size photos stay on your phone; smaller copies are uploaded to make the video. The how it works page has the full flow.

When to pick which
Pick Travel Animator if:
- You want to make a video today, or you use Android, iPad or a Mac.
- You want 4K, a 3D globe, satellite maps or landmark models.
- You’re showing a route you planned, or a trip without photos.
- You want to place every point of the route yourself.
Pick TravelMapReel (once it’s out) if:
- You have an iPhone full of trip photos and don’t want to plot stops by hand.
- The trip is long, or long ago, and you don’t remember every town in order. Photo times do.
- You want your photos placed at the right stops automatically, best shots first.
- You didn’t run a GPS tracker. TravelMapReel works afterwards, as long as the photos kept their location.

Where the photo approach falls short
TravelMapReel needs photos that carry a location. Photos saved from messaging apps, screenshots and some shared images lose it; the app lists them so you can place each one on the map or leave it out. Our videos also have no soundtrack; you add a sound in Instagram or TikTok when you post. And there is one look per theme rather than a big 3D toolbox. If those matter more than skipping the route work, Travel Animator is the stronger tool.
